Teaching

offers a variety of courses, seminars and workshops on skyscape archaeology, archaeoastronomy and various aspects of cultural astronomy.

We have 15+ years of experience teaching archaeoastronomy and archaeology in academia as well as delivering talks on these topics to the general public, whether in front of a projector screen on inside a portable planetarium.

draws on this experience to design and deliver a range of educational vehicles specifically aimed at your audience – from Key Stage 3 to postgraduate students, from the general public to the professional archaeologist or astronomer.

Our flagship vehicle is The Skyscape Academy which delivers a range of online courses on archaeoastronomy and skyscape archaeology.

In addition to the academy, we also offer a range of ready-made options available (from 1hr talks/seminars to 2 day courses), and we can also create something personalised to your needs. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and co-design a course, seminar or workshop with us.

TESTIMONIALS

I have had the pleasure of designing and delivering undergraduate courses with Fabio, who is not only an excellent teacher, but is also one of those rare academics who is capable of communicating the most complex information in a way that is both engaging and accessible. I still remember watching a classroom of archaeology undergraduates spellbound as he carefully unpacked the nuances of ancient Chinese astronomy for them.

— Prof Mark Gillings (University of Bristol)

Fabio Silva is the best in his field.  Very few people combine the two essential skills necessary for those who love learning about the stones and the sky.  We need to know how to measure space and Fabio makes that fun and accessible.  Secondly, his knowledge about skywatchers and sky watching through all time is second to none.  We all know that the stones contain mysteries that are tantalisingly just beyond our reach.  Fabio has the key to that magic.

— Pamela Armstrong (PhD candidate, Bournemouth University)

Fabio is a caring and outstanding teacher, who relishes in communicating his passion for the sky and the past.

— Dr Marc Vander Linden (Bournemouth University)

I have known Fabio for nearly 20 years. He possesses the admirable and exceptional ability of being both a highly capable astrophysicist and an archaeologist. Not only that, he has a skilful and engaging way of combining these diverse fields and communicating Skyscape Archaeology to his academic students and audience. Fabio was an important and supportive supervisor in completing my Ph.D. thesis.

— Dr Tore Lomsdalen (University of Malta)
